As people finish or leave school, many are unsure of what they want to do as a career. Either they go to college to obtain a degree, or they enter the workforce; however, both of those options hold a lot of uncertainty and decisions that can be overwhelming. That is similar to how Andrew got connected with PA CareerLink® Lancaster County.
“I would say I was kinda stuck for a little bit and I didn’t know what I was going to do, or I was going to do for the rest of my life and then I found this place called PA CareerLink®. They helped me out!” — said Andrew in an interview with PA CareerLink® Lancaster County.
Andrew was referred to PA CareerLink® Lancaster County through his twin brother Colin, who had recently enrolled in the Youth Program. During Andrew’s initial meeting, he shared that his primary interest was working with people – he enjoyed helping others and thrived in social, interactive environments.
“Andrew quickly demonstrated commitment and enthusiasm by successfully completing the Design Your Future program. This showed potential to being a good candidate for PA CareerLink® Lancaster County’s Paid Work Experience program.” — stated Richard Jackson, Youth Career Navigator at PA CareerLink® Lancaster County.
Once Andrew successfully completed the Design Your Future program, he became eligible for a Paid Work Experience and luckily, an opportunity opened within PA CareerLink® Lancaster County for a Talent Engagement Specialist Paid Work Experience placement! Andrew and his twin brother, Colin, both obtained roles and were able to experience hands-on what PA CareerLink® Lancaster County does and develop skills that would help them land full-time jobs in the fields they were looking for—specifically for Andrew, this helped him develop professional skills to land a position working with people.
Shortly after Andrew completed his Paid Work Experience with PA CareerLink® Lancaster County, there was an opportunity where a full-time Talent Engagement Specialist position became available at PA CareerLink® Lancaster County. Needless to say, Andrew quickly took the chance and applied to the position which led to him interviewing and was officially offered the role on September 19th becoming a member of the PA CareerLink® Lancaster County crew!
During his first week Andrew shared that he is excited to be in this role and continue what he fell in love with during his Paid Work Experience of helping people in a way that he wasn’t aware of until he came to PA CareerLink® Lancaster County.
“I am very excited to be working at PA CareerLink® Lancaster County. Like I said, many people in my generation don’t know what the steps or what they want to do in their future and here is a place where we can make that happen.” — said Andrew.
Andrew’s journey reflects the power of timely support, personal drive, a positive attitude, and the impact of career development programs.
