Leequan knew he was ready for more—a career where he could grow and build a future.
After Leequan got laid off from his previous employment, a family member encouraged him to apply for an Industrial Service Technician opportunity at VLS Environmental Solutions, an employer partner of PA CareerLink® Lancaster County.
After applying, Leequan was offered the role, contingent on completing additional training to prepare him for success. Elaine Box, Senior People & Culture Business Partner at VLS, recalled PA CareerLink® Lancaster County’s On-the-Job Training program and reached out to the Business Services Team to inquire about Leequan’s eligibility. A short time later, the team assessed that Leequan did qualify, and he began work experience that changed his career trajectory.
“I’m happy because I didn’t have to change who I am. I can talk to everyone here, including the VP, as I would a friend. I’m looking to make a career here.” Leequan shared.
PA CareerLink’s OJT program helps connect job seekers with businesses who are willing to train while a job seeker is on the job to obtain skills that allow them to advance their skills. With a plethora of connections to various local businesses and partnerships, PA CareerLink® helps assist with obtaining the skills needed. This process is for those who are only approved through the eligibility process. Once approved, the job seekers work with both the Business Service Team and a Career Navigator through their process with the OJT. This is the program that advanced Leequan to gain his skills to obtain his dream career with VLS.
Leequan reports that he loves his new career and credits the PA CareerLink Lancaster County team for helping him obtain a dream job of his.
